You're a monarch, just like your parents, ruling a small, charming kingdom of rivers and evergreens. But unlike them, you've got big dreams! You want a larger, more delightful kingdom with more rivers and a wider range of trees - you want a Dominion! All around are fiefs, freeholds, and feodums, small lands on the verge of anarchy under petty lords. You'll bring civilization to these people, uniting them under your banner. But beware! Other monarchs have the same idea. You must race to claim as much unclaimed land as possible and fend them off. To achieve this, you'll hire minions, build buildings, beautify your castle, and fill your treasury. In Dominion, each player starts with an identical, tiny deck of cards. There's a selection of other cards in the center of the table that players can 'buy' when they can afford them. By choosing which cards to buy and how to play their hands, players build their deck on the fly, aiming for the most efficient way to get victory points by the game end. Dominion isn't a collectible card game (CCG), but its gameplay is similar to building and playing a CCG deck. The game comes with 500 cards. You pick 10 out of 26 Kingdom card types for each play, offering endless variety. Dominion (Second Edition) replaces six Kingdom card types from the first edition with six new ones and the blank cards with a seventh new Kingdom card. These new cards are also available in the Dominion: Update Pack. The rulebook has been rewritten, three cards have minor functional changes, and others have been rephrased. The Dominion: Update Pack lets first - edition owners get the new cards without buying the whole game again.
